The Grassroots Action Movement (GAM) wishes to set the record straight on the true nature and outcome of the #IKENKWU2022 Movement, which was originally conceived as a noble platform for unity, introspection, and rediscovery among the Ukwa-Ngwa Nation.
The concept of Ike Nkwu representing the bunch of palm fruit (unity of purpose), the many fruits (demographic strength), the oil (economic vitality), and the thorns (youthful energy) was a symbol of collective progress and renewal. Unfortunately, what began as a genuine call for reflection was later hijacked and manipulated by selfish political interests.
Rather than serve as a rallying point for unity, #IKENKWU2022 was turned into a stage for personal ambition, propaganda, and division. Its noble ideals were sacrificed on the altar of political opportunism, leaving behind resentment and mistrust among the very people it sought to uplift.
At the center of this distortion was Ubani Dannie, whose actions and utterances during and after the event revealed a pattern of self-promotion and political opportunism. Instead of standing for collective progress, he exploited the movement for personal relevance, undermining its moral credibility and purpose.
It is therefore unsurprising that his latest initiative, “Abia for Substance of Good Governance,” has been met with widespread skepticism. The name may sound reformative, but it lacks the sincerity and consistency that true leadership demands. One who politicized a people’s movement for personal gain cannot suddenly transform into the moral voice of good governance.
Furthermore, GAM strongly cautions Ubani Dannie against his recent acts of disrespect towards the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu . The Deputy Speaker occupies a constitutionally revered national office that deserves respect and decorum. Attempts to undermine his image or office for selfish political gain are irresponsible, divisive, and detrimental to the political harmony of Abia State and the South East.
The Grassroots Action Movement reaffirms its belief that Abia State’s progress lies in sincere leadership, unity of purpose, and respect for institutions — not in self-serving activism or opportunistic propaganda. The people of Ukwa-Ngwa and Abia at large must remain vigilant and reject every form of politics that thrives on deceit and disrespect.
In the final analysis, #IKENKWU2022 stands as a reminder that noble ideas fail when driven by ego rather than service. Abia deserves leaders who embody truth, humility, and vision, not those who trade integrity for attention.
