President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that his administration’s decision to remove the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) is driving rapid infrastructural development and improving governance in the capital city.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa on Sunday while receiving FCT residents for Sallah homage, President Tinubu explained that the bureaucratic hurdles associated with the TSA were slowing down progress, necessitating a review of the policy to achieve better results.
The delegation, led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, included members of the National Assembly, judiciary, religious and traditional leaders, security chiefs, and representatives of women and youth groups.
President Tinubu highlighted that exempting the FCT from TSA constraints has already led to significant improvements in infrastructure, healthcare services, and security within the territory.
“I recall when the FCT Minister approached me with the request to remove the TSA limitations so that he could fast-track development. After presenting his vision and plans, I approved, and we have since witnessed remarkable changes—revitalized rural areas, completion of abandoned projects, renovation of healthcare centers, and improvements in school facilities,” the President said.
He commended Minister Wike for his dedication to restructuring the FCT’s public service, making it more efficient and result-oriented. The President also urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious biases when selecting leaders, emphasizing the importance of competence and results.
“Security is improving, and food prices are stabilizing. We must focus on outcomes rather than differences. Nigeria’s diversity should be our strength, not a point of division,” he added.
Encouraging unity and patriotism, President Tinubu called for continued tolerance and learning from the lessons of Ramadan to foster national development.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the President for allowing the delegation to pay homage, noting it was the first time FCT residents had such an opportunity during the festive period. He reaffirmed his commitment to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and promised the timely completion of ongoing projects in the capital city.
Among the dignitaries present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.
